Over 2,000 aftershocks recorded after M-7.0 quake

A total of 2,283 aftershocks have been recorded in quake-hit Lushan County as of 2 p.m. Beijing time on Monday, with the strongest registering a magnitude of 5.4, authorities said.

Four of the aftershocks were measured above 5 magnitude, according to the China Earthquake Administration.

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Lushan County, Ya'an City of southwest China's Sichuan Province, at 8:02 a.m. Beijing time on Saturday, leaving at least 188 people dead and 11,950 injured as of 2 p.m. Monday, according to latest statistics from the the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

Lushan is about 200 km from the epicenter of the massive Wenchuan earthquake that left 87,000 dead or missing five years ago.
