East China's Jiangxi Province has confirmed its first human case of H7N9 bird flu.
A 69-year-old man in Nanchang, the provincial capital, is confirmed as having the virus. Medical staff say he's in a critical condition. The man has no record of traveling outside Nanchang or close contact with dead fowl, but lives near a live poultry market. Jiangxi has launched a emergency response to prevent further spread of the disease. The local government says it will keep a close watch on the developments of the virus and relay information in a timely manner. Meanwhile, people have been told how to protect themselves and to stay away from birds.
