Originality reigns at College Student Film Competition

At the ongoing Beijing Student Film Festival, originality is the order of the day. More than 2000 entries from home and abroad entered the College Student Film Competition.

Now in its 20th year, the Student Film Festival has chosen the winners of its competition element. Apart from the conventional prizes, this year's competition has added some special nods reserved for films concerning environmental protection along with commercial short films.

"We saw a variety of work: feature films, short films, documentaries and animation. According to the jury, compared to last year, students have made more appealing original films of a higher quality. All in all, a good sign for China's original film market," said Zhou Xing, assistant exec. director of Beijing Student Film Fest committee.

The competition welcomes anyone who is passionate about film-making to showcase their productions and has become a hotbed of creative talent.

"First, I just wanted to film something and get a prize to prove myself. But when you have the trophy in your hands, you suddenly realise that this is what you have wanted to do all your life and now I might as well move on and create more," winner of Best Director of Documentary said.
