The Philippine representative to Taiwan has reached an agreement with Taiwan authorities over last week's shooting death of a Taiwan fisherman by the Philippine Coast Guard.
The agreement came hours after the 3-day-deadline set by Taiwan to meet its demands. The Philippine government has agreed to some demands by the Taiwan authorities, including making an apology and clarifying the truth. The two sides are still divided on the issue of compensation and the details of the apology.
But Taiwan believes the Philippines has given a positive first response. A Taiwan investigation team will head to the Philippines on Thursday, while the Philippines will send a special envoy to Taiwan as a show of goodwill. At that time, the envoy is expected to propose a compensation deal, and make an apology to the victim's family.
