Residents at Shifa village in Daxing district found their tap water was contaminated by pesticide this week, and the local village committee asked residents not drink the water, the Beijing News reports.
A villager said she smelled an acrid pesticide odor from the tap water when she was about to wash her face, and then more residents reported the strong pesticide smell in the water.
The village committee then announced the issue and asked them to stop using the tap water.
The local government said they suspected the water was contaminated by some residents who were cleaning their pesticide tools using the water.
