The State Council Information Office is now briefing the press on China's achievements and challenges in protecting the country's wildlife. Deputy Administrator of the State Forestry Administration or SFA, Yin Hong is hosting the conference.
In light of reports last November that migratory birds had been killed as they travelled through China, the SFA vowed to pool and coordinate efforts to strengthen wildlife protection and management.
Local authorities were urged to "seriously look into" management loopholes and locate major protection areas in order to strengthen patrols. The administration also called for intensifying checks on restaurants, bird markets and traditional medicine stores, where wild animals are widely used.
