3D technology booms in China

Homegrown 3D technology is on the rise in China.  Chinese technology pioneers are working hard to develop their own 3D creations, hoping to join, or even perhaps lead, the global 3D race.

However, one Chinese company based in Shenzhen, says it's developed a more convenient solution.

Song Lei, Chief Technical Officer of Shenzhen Super-D, said, "If you stand in front of our device, it tracks your face and eyes with a camera, and then sends separate images to your left and right eyes, based on your position. That's how you get a 3D effect without glasses."

The company began research into what it calls "bare-eye 3D technology" in 2004. Less than 10 years later, it's now a leading global player, with over 200 patents.

Ge Zhang, President of Shenzhen Super-D, said, "Our technology has already been adopted by several leading manufacturers, including Samsung, Sony and Toshiba. We'll expand our technology cooperation with more domestic and international IT manufacturers in the future."

Over at this Beijing technology expo, more 3D apps are catching visitors' eyes.....

For example, if you don't have a whole day to traipse through the stores looking for the right clothes, you might just try a 3D fitting room. It will tell you how you look wearing a beige suit, or even holding a "man bag."

"This is magical. I've never had an experience like this."

Perhaps the most talked about 3D technology is the boom in 3D printing. The global technology is now well established, with 3D printers transforming imaginations into reality.

"It is my girlfriend's birthday next week. I'm hoping to print a self-designed cell phone case for her."

Liu Yang, Deputy Managing Director of 16th Beijing Technology Expo, said, "The way that 3D technology or any other new technology becomes successful, is by becoming more and more accessible to the public."

This is just the start of a new 3D revolution in China. Applications will continue to widen in their scope, covering areas like education, healthcare, and many other fields.
