Philippine President Benigno Aquino III said Monday that he expects the report of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on the killing of a Taiwanese fisherman by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) this week.

"The NBI (report), as of last week is not yet with me, maybe sometime this week," Aquino told reporters when asked if he already received the report from the NBI.

In an interview in Malacanang, the presidential palace, Aquino said he had ordered the NBI to conduct its probe on the May 9 incident after Coast Guard members shot at Taiwanese fishing vessel.

The shooting incident happened at sea around 160 nautical miles southeast of Taiwan on May 9, when Philippine Coast Guard officers shot and killed 65-year-old Taiwanese fisherman Hung Shih-Cheng.

The Philippine coast guard admitted later firing at one of four Taiwanese fishing vessels.

The NBI team that went to Taiwan to inspect the fishing vessel involved in the shooting and interview some of the witnesses and cross match some of the bullet casings that were recovered from the vessel has already completed its investigations and returned to the Philippines. Meanwhile, their counterparts from the Taiwan Criminal Investigation Bureau has likewise returned to Taipei after their own probe in Manila.
