China's top legislator Zhang Dejiang held talks with Polish House of Representatives Speaker Ewa Kopacz on Wednesday, pledging to boost parliamentary cooperation.

Zhang, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), hailed the smooth development of bilateral ties in the 60-plus years since China and Poland established diplomatic relations, and especially since they forged a strategic partnership in 2011.

The Chinese side always cherishes its traditional friendship with Poland and looks forward to more practical cooperation between the two sides, the legislator said.

He said the two legislatures should increase friendly interactions at various levels and in multiple areas to help advance the bilateral relationship in a sustainable and healthy way.

As both China and Poland give priority to economic development and people's living conditions, the two legislatures can also work together to provide more favorable legal environments for economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, he said.

Zhang said the NPC has set up a body to strengthen relations between the two legislatures and further enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries.

During the talks, Kopacz said the Polish side attaches great importance to its relationship with China and believes that the establishment and development of the strategic partnership is in the interests of the people of the two countries.

The Polish legislature is ready to enhance exchanges and cooperation with the NPC to facilitate reciprocal cooperation between the two countries on trade and culture as well as at local levels to make more constructive contributions to the bilateral relationship, she said.
