A week-long exhibition entitled "Red Star over China -- Chinese Communists in the Eyes of Foreign Journalists," opened in Beijing Sunday, to mark International Archives Day.
On display are more than 300 photographs, archives and documents, as well as three rare videos. The videos are 13 foreign reporters' accounts of the Chinese Communists and the Communist Party of China (CPC)-led revolutionary armed forces before 1949, when the People's Republic of China (PRC) was founded.
"Red Star over China" is the title of a book written by American journalist Edgar Snow, which covers his visit in Yan'an in northern China's Shaanxi Province, where the CPC was once headquartered in the 1930s-40s. The book also covers his meetings with the late Chinese leader Mao Zedong and other members of the Chinese Communists.
The exhibition is co-sponsored by the State Archives Administration and the Municipal Archives Administration of Shanghai.
The UNESCO held a meeting on archives in June 1948, with the International Council on Archives created on June 9.
