33,310 evacuated in E. China downpour

Heavy rain since Wednesday has caused flooding of rivers in east China's Jiangxi Province, forcing the evacuation of 33,310 people.

The Jiangxi provincial headquarters of flood control and drought relief said on Sunday that the downpour has caused flooding disasters in 33 counties and cities, affecting the lives of 581,200 residents.

A total of 23 counties and cities in Jiangxi received precipitation of more than 100 mm between 8 a.m. on Wednesday and 8 a.m. on Saturday.

The province's Changjiang River has seen the water level go over danger marks. The water level at its Tankou Hydrometric Station, Fuliang County, was 60.5 meters as of 5 p.m. on Friday, 5.5 meters more than the danger mark. The water level at its Dufengkeng Station was 2.98 meters more than the danger mark as of 4:48 a.m. on Saturday.

The intensity of the rain is weakening and is moving south, according to the provincial headquarters of flood control and drought relief.
