An American teacher at a French school in Shanghai has been arrested on suspicions of child molestation, the local procuratorate announced Thursday.
The Pudong New Area People's Procuratorate approved the arrest on charges of child molestation.
David McMahon, a 32-year-old man from the United States, was detained on May 13 after police received a report from a French student and her parents on May 12 claiming that the man molested the student several times, according to the municipal public security bureau.
McMahon is suspected of molesting six children aged six to ten. They include five French children and one Italian, according to police.
Shanghai police asked the Pudong New Area People's Procuratorate to approve the arrest on June 7.
