Police in Zhuhai, South China's Guangdong Province, arrested five Japanese men Tuesday who are suspected of involvement in the death of a sixth Japanese man, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
Zhuhai Public Security Bureau released a statement on the case Wednesday evening.
Police officer Bai Zhigang from the bureau said that the deceased was a 26-year-old Japanese man found with wounds in a rented room in a community of Nanping town, Xiangzhou district, adding his hands and feet showed traces of being bound.
Police soon arrested five Japanese men suspected of being involved in the case Tuesday evening at a Western restaurant in Zhuhai.
At their rented apartment, police allegedly discovered documents used for telecom fraud, computers and Internet devices.
The five Japanese men confessed that they, including the deceased man, made phone calls back to Japan from the apartment, imitating police or bank workers for fraudulent purposes.
The victim allegedly expressed unease with the fraudulent activities and was beaten by the others. Early on Tuesday morning, as the victim tried to leave the apartment alone, they feared he was going to leave the group, and took him back where he was bound and beaten.
The case is under further investigation.
