A Chinese joint working team is in Ghana to discuss issues linked to a group of Chinese miners who have been arrested. The team includes officials from the Chinese ministries of Foreign Affairs, Commerce and Public Security.
China's Ambassador to Ghana, Gong Jianzhong and Qiu Xuejun, the head of the Chinese delegation, expressed hope that both countries will take effective measures to resolve issues concerning illegal mining activities and the protection of the legitimate interests of Chinese nationals. They also called for a civilized way for law enforcement to be carried out.
Ghanian officials have pledged to work with the Chinese side to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals and to make it easy for the recently released miners to return home.
