UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has visited China's peacekeeping training center this morning. He watched the training programs and checked out facilities.

In his speech, he encouraged Chinese peacekeepers and expressed his hope that China will take on more missions in the future. The center is a joint project of the Ministry of National Defense and the UN.

It was established in 2009 and is the first of its kind in the country. China is the biggest contributor of peacekeepers among the permanent members of the Security Council. To date, it has sent more than 20,000 peacekeepers on 33 UN missions.
