China's submersible, the Jiaolong, is conducting its third deep-sea dive during its mission in the South China Sea.
Marine biological scientist Qiu Jianwen from Hong Kong, is carrying out today's research. The third dive focuses on scientific investigation, and the submersible will stay in the water for about 7 hours. The crew will also collect samples and film documentary videos.
This is the Jiaolong's third dive since Monday. The second dive carried Zhou Huaiyang from Tongji University. He's the first scientist to work on board as a crew member. The Jiaolong, aboard the mother ship Xiang-yang-hong-9, left on June the 10th for a 110-day mission. After its mission in the South China Sea, it will conduct research on the Pacific Ocean seabed.
