Tipsters who can point to the source of online rumors spread in websites and microblogging services will be rewarded, Chen Hua, an official with the Beijing Municipal Internet Information Office, said Thursday.
The office will offer financial assistance in accordance with a local regulation that took effect at the end of last year, and the money will be used to reward Web users who expose rumors on websites registered in the capital.
The detailed amount of reward and the terms of application are still being drafted, said Yang Su, deputy secretary general of the Beijing Internet Association.
This is part of a campaign initiated by the State Internet Information Office in an effort to crack down on fake information online.
