Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete said Friday that his country would like to strengthen cooperation with China.

At a meeting with Liu Jiayi, China's auditor general, Kikwete said Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Tanzania in March showed the great importance China attaches to its strategic partnership with the African country.

He said the two countries signed a series of cooperative agreements during Xi's visit, including harbor and natural gas pipeline construction. The agreements promoted cooperation in traditional sectors and expanded cooperation in new ones, he said.

Kikwete said that Tanzania has made great effort to shake off poverty and that its economy has maintained rapid growth for many years.

However, there are still some difficulties and problems in the country's development, he said, adding that he hopes Tanzania and China can strengthen economic cooperation in the future.

Liu said China and Tanzania can promote cooperation in various fields such as electricity, energy, transportation and agriculture.
