2 killed in Beijing bakery blast

Two people were killed and 19 injured in a gas explosion Wednesday morning at a bakery in downtown Beijing, official sources said.

The four severely injured and others have been sent to nearby hospitals, the sources said.

The explosion occurred at 7:33 a.m. in a Golden Phoenix Bakery store on Guangming Road, Dongcheng District.

The fire has been put out and two gas tanks containing 50 kg of liquefied gas have been removed from the scene.

A witness who heard loud sound of the explosion said, "Broken glasses were flying and some near the site were injured."
