Tea is the most popular product foreigners buy in Beijing, followed by silk and handicrafts, according to the 2013 Beijing Tourism Green Paper. Cigarettes, traditional Chinese medicine and art also rank among the hottest items on foreigners' China shopping lists, the Beijing Daily reports.
Tourism authorities made the findings based on a survey conducted between April and July 2012 among 4,800 tourists at Beijing Capital International Airport and hotels.
