A minivan driver admitted to backing into a white Maserati in Changsha, Central China's Hunan Province on July 24 after becoming distracted while admiring it.
The van driver surnamed Liu said he had forgotten he was in reverse because he "had never seen such a luxury car."
The fender-bender left the Maserati with a dented passenger door and the van a cracked bumper. No one was injured in the accident, reported people.com.cn.
Insurance experts estimate that repairs for the Maserati will cost hundreds of thousands yuan, while the van only hundreds. Fortunately Liu is insured and will not have to pay for repairs out of pocket.
As the number of luxury cars increase, some drivers expressed concern about sharing the road with vehicles worth many times more than their own.
"All these expensive cars on the road make me nervous. How would I be able to afford to cover repairs if I accidentally hit one?" said one driver.
