Police in Beijing on Monday launched a campaign to combat criminal offences and strengthen police patrols in an effort to maintain social stability.
The decision came after a series of violent incidents occurred recently in Beijing. In one of the latest cases, a man killed a baby girl during an argument with her mother over a parking space.
The Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau ordered strict security checks in train stations and airports as well as strengthened patrols in supermarkets and shopping malls.
Six public security incidents have occurred in Beijing between July 17 and July 24, four of which involved violence.
