China has made historic progress on human rights in last 60 yrs

China's human rights conditions have made historic progress during the past 60 years, reads the first annual report on the country's political development released Monday.

The report, compiled by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, pointed out that the historic development in the human rights cause has seen the rights that Chinese people enjoy improve from basic survival needs to higher and wider demands for economic, civil, cultural, educational and subsistence rights.

In addition, the rights of all citizens have been ensured on the basis of equality and the pursuit of their democratic rights.

With the enlargement of international exchanges, China's developments in human rights have been acclaimed by many unbiased political observers.

During the past six decades, the government has been focusing on people's demands and striving to solve the problems closely linked to their livelihood, including housing, education and healthcare, by enacting a long list of related laws.

The principle of respecting and safeguarding human rights was formally included into the latest amendment to the Criminal Procedure Law in 2012, and the latest National Human Rights Action Plan approved a guide for implementing measures on protecting human rights.

In 2012, the most striking progress in the development of human rights was in areas that concern public welfare.

The fact that over 66 percent of Chinese Net users frequently see the Internet as a platform to vent their voices and express their demands has led many local governments to set up online administrative platforms, including Weibo accounts, to improve the overall effectiveness of their services and respond to appeals from the public.

Reform of the administrative system has also accelerated during the past year. By regulating and detailing information disclosure, the government has become more responsible and transparent when it comes to guaranteeing the people's democratic rights, read the report.
