Vice President Li Yuanchao on Thursday called for nurturing creativity among teenagers and make them become China's future innovative talents.

Li made the remarks at an award ceremony for students who have excelled in scientific and technological subjects.

Science and technology are decisive factors for national prosperity and strength, said Li, adding that the awards are aimed to motivate student's scientific passion.

The awards were set up under the last wish of the late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping in 2004 when the 100th anniversary of his birth was marked.

Li urged teenagers across China to devote their studies to science and technology and apply their knowledge in promoting the development of China.
