First meeting of JCC on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor kicks off in Islamabad

The first meeting of the Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor kicked off here on Tuesday.

Pakistani Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal welcomed the visiting Chinese delegation in his opening remark.

Regarding the economic corridor, he attached importance to its role in improving bilateral economic relations, saying his country will actively cooperate with China and implement the consensus of the leaders of both countries as well as the accords signed by both countries.

Head of Chinese delegation and Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Zhang Xiaoqiang said this meeting fully symbolized joint efforts of both countries in promoting the implementation of relevant work.

The planning and implementing of the economic corridor project will deepen bilateral strategic cooperation, promote common development, benefit peoples of the two countries, facilitate regional integration and bring cooperation and stability to the region of South Asia, said Zhang.

He hoped the meeting can make a good start and lay solid foundation for the sustainable and strong development of the economic corridor.

The JCC conducted in-depth discussions on key issues related to the economic corridor, including infrastructure, energy and investment.

The Chinese delegation arrived in Islamabad, capital of Pakistan, on Monday evening.
