China's top legislature on Friday launched inspections on how the country's Meteorology Law is enforced.

Three inspection teams, organized by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC). will be sent to five provincial regions including Heilongjiang, Anhui, Fujian, Hunan and Jiangsu over the next month, according to a meeting of the inspection work group.

Ji Bingxuan, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, said the inspections are aimed at enhancing capabilities to prevent and cope with meteorological disasters, developing and protecting climate resources and meteorological facilities, and helping build disaster prevention, mitigation and service systems in accordance with the law.X Local legislatures of other provinces and regions were also ordered to check the enforcement of the law.

Assessing the implementation of laws is an important way for the top legislature to exercise supervision.

The Meteorology Law was adopted by the top legislature in 1999 and took effect on Jan. 1, 2000. This month's tour represents the first time the law has been subjected to a nationwide inspection.
