Liu Jieyi, China's new envoy to the United Nations, presented Tuesday his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the UN Headquarters.
"The United Nations, being the most universal, representative and authoritative international organization, bears the expectations of the people all over the world and shoulders significant mission," Liu told the press after the official ceremony.
Noting that the world today is undergoing profound and complex changes, the new envoy said it requires joint efforts from all nations to achieve peace, development, and win-win cooperation.
"As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a major developing country, China has consistently advocated multilateralism and attached importance to the role of the United Nations," he said. "China will continue to firmly support the UN, uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and play the role of a responsible major country in UN system."
As China's new permanent representative to the United Nations, Liu said he felt "greatly honored and a strong sense of responsibilities."
The Chinese ambassador pledged to work together with colleagues from other member states to push the UN to make greater contribution to achieving common interests of all countries and building a harmonious world of lasting peace and common prosperity.
