"Along the Silk Road" aims to portray the unique culture of the Silk Road, especially that of Dunhuang, a major stop on the ancient road.
A classic Chinese drama was recently performed in Kyrgyzstan. "Along the Silk Road" was staged in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek last Thursday. The drama resonated well with the audience, as Kyrgyzstan plays an important part in the history of the Silk Road.
The narrative concerns the journey of a painter and his daughter as they travel along the Silk Road. The pair form a firm friendship with a Persian merchant and endure many turbulent experiences together.
The show aims to portray the unique culture of the Silk Road, especially that of Dunhuang, a major stop on the ancient road.
"We hope this show will display the full splendour of the ancient Silk Road and remind people of the deep connection shared between China and Kryghyztan. We hope this historical piece will promote a deeper cooperation at all levels between the two nations," said Yu Jianning, vice secretary-general of Gansu People's Government.
The Dunhuang culture is a unique blend of Chinese and Middle Eastern culture with Buddhism. So audiences can relate to the play's context.
"I loved it, especially the set. This is the first time I.ve seen a Chinese play, and I.m just blown away."
"Along the Silk Road" holds a Guinness world record for the most performed Chinese drama. It has been shown in 30 countries and staged more than 2,000 times.
