Baoshan district commerce regulators have fined two people for selling phony Swarovski brand jewelry and accessories on Taobao.com, the Shanghai Administration for Industry and Commerce said Thursday.
One of the vendors, Han Yucun, who started an online shop in June 2010, sold more than 80,000 yuan ($13,075) in phony brand products to the other vendor involved in the case, according to an administration press release.
Law enforcement officers confiscated 1,236 necklaces, 288 bracelets, 2,016 pairs of earrings, 184 rings and 5,200 key chains from Han's business on May 21.
Authorities found Han while investigating another online shop owner who bought merchandise from him.
The second vendor, Guo Xueyun, ended up on the administration's radar during a routine check of shopping websites in May.
Administration officials confiscated 800 boxes and 300 labels for Swarovski products from Guo on May 8.
Guo had been selling counterfeit Swarovski products since April 2011. The administration said he earned more than 160,000 yuan from selling the products. During an interrogation, Guo said that he bought his supply of counterfeit products from Han.
In the first half of this year, the Shanghai Administration for Industry and Commerce closed more than 900 illegal food management cases and 33 cases of unqualified children's products.
