The suspect who faces criminal charges for setting off a home-made explosive at the Beijing Capital International Airport will stand trial on Tuesday at the Beijing Chaoyang District People's Court.

Ji Zhongxing, a 33-year-old wheelchair-bound man from Juancheng, Shandong Province, confessed that he prepared and carried the homemade explosive device and leaflets to Terminal 3 of the airport and triggered the explosive device on July 20.

The Chaoyang district prosecutor's office approved Ji's arrest on July 29, the airport police said.

The explosion severely injured Ji and slightly injured a police officer at the site, the police said earlier.

He has been in custody since July 21.

Ji said he did this for personal purposes.

He has been petitioning the authorities over his lower limb paralysis, which was allegedly caused by a beating from several security officers in Dongguan, South China's Guangdong Province, in 2005.
