Police shoot man in leg

Police shot a man in the leg Saturday to stop him from threatening passersby on a ramp to the elevated highway over Yan'an Road West, near Kaixuan Road, local media reported.

Patrolling traffic police ran across the man waving a knife at passing cars while walking down the ramp around 11:10 am, the news website eastday.com reported.

The man knocked on car windows as he walked. Ranger police and patrol officers ordered the man to put down the knife, but he was too agitated to listen.

Police shot his leg as he was about to attack passing bicyclists. He was then taken to a hospital. No one else was hurt.
