The Chinese embassy in Dhaka hosted a reception on Wednesday to mark the 64th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic of China.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jun hailed the Chinese-Bangladesh relations, pledging to work hard for the further development of bilateral ties and the friendship between the two peoples.
Ruling Bangladesh Awami League party's General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, also minister for Local Government and Rural Development and Cooperatives, attended the reception as chief guest and expressed his government's willingness to enhance substantial cooperation with China in economic and trade sectors.
A strong relationship has existed between Bangladesh and China since prehistoric times, Islam said.
The guests at the ceremony also wished the Chinese government and people success in their struggle to build a powerful, modernized and prosperous nation and hope that Beijing would contribute more to world peace, development and stability.
Hundreds of prominent figures, including ministers, lawmakers, diplomats, senior politicians, journalists and businessmen have also joined the reception party to mark the anniversary of the founding of New China.
The reception, which started with a spectacular lion dance performed by Bangladeshi dancers.
