Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in New York on Thursday with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle at UN Headquarters in New York on promoting bilateral ties.

Wang said Sino-German relations have become the "front runner" among China's relations with European Union countries. The bilateral pragmatic cooperation has entered a "fast track."

China is willing to comprehensively deepen strategic mutual trust and pragmatic cooperation in every field, together with Germany's new leadership, so as to elevate the partnership and the Sino-EU relations to higher levels, the minister said.

Giving bilateral ties a positive note, Westerwelle said developing relations with China is one of the priorities of the new government. Germany is willing to work with China to deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields, he added.

During the talks, the two foreign ministers also discussed the Syria crisis and the Iran nuclear issue.
