Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades said Friday that his country looks forward to signing a series of new cooperation agreements with China as soon as possible.
China is an important strategic partner of Europe, and Cyprus supports the development of China-Europe relations, Anastasiades said in a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the UN headquarters.
The president added that his country thinks highly of the constructive role China has played in the United Nations.
Wang, for his part, said China highly values its ties with Cyprus and the two countries are reliable friends and partners to each other.
In recent years, China and Cyprus have enjoyed firm mutual trust in politics, and bilateral trade has expanded despite global economic turmoil, he noted.
The two countries, added the minister, has great potential to further expand trade and investment.
Wang also said China highly appreciates Cyprus' active push for deeper China-EU ties and its support for China on China's core concerns.
