1 dead, 7 missing after boat capsizes in NE China

Ships and helicopter crews are searching for seven people who went missing after a fishing boat capsized off the coast of northeast China's Liaoning Province, local authorities said on Saturday.

The provincial maritime search and rescue center received reports at 10:30 a.m. that a fishing boat had capsized in waters five nautical miles from Changxing Island with ten people on board.

Further investigation by the center showed the boat capsized at 2 a.m. on Saturday.

One person died in the accident and the body was retrieved by rescue workers, according to the center.

Two people have been rescued so far and seven others remain missing.

Rescue work is still under way.
