Local authorities in Hefei, Anhui Province shut down a practice lot for a driving school illegally operating on top of a five-story shopping mall.
The Bayi Driving School issued a written apology on October 10, acknowledging they had ignored issues of safety and explained a lot of suitable size is not affordable in the downtown area.
Atop the shopping mall in the city's Luyang district, the practice lot was separated from the rest of the rooftop parking lot with chain link fence and surrounded by stem walls no more than a meter high.
Though the area is thousands of square meters, many Net users doubted how learners dared to step on the gas while driving over 20 meters from the ground.
According to authorities, the lot was set up illegally, and an investigation is underway.
Although not clearly defined in traffic laws, enrollment in a driving school is currently a necessary step to getting a drivers license in China.
