Police have arrested a 17-year-old Henan Province boy for the murder of a taxi driver in Minhang district, local media reported Wednesday.

The victim, surnamed Tang, 53, from Fengxian district, was found stabbed to death in his Shanghai Haibo Taxi cab early Tuesday morning, according to a report on the news website xinmin.cn.

The stabbing took place in secluded green space about 20 meters from the Shanghai Jinzheng Electronic Industry Co Ltd factory on Jinglian Road, where Tang's taxi was found Tuesday, the report said. Tang had apparently gone back to his taxi after the attack, but was only able to drive as far as the factory gate.

Tang's family knelt on the bloodstained ground and wept at the scene of his murder Wednesday. Tang's sister said her brother suffered severe wounds to his neck, according to the report.

Police tracked down the suspect, who was not identified, by tapping the taxi's satellite navigation system to determine where Tang had driven that night, the report said. They then examined surveillance video footage from those areas until they found the suspect. Officers arrested the 17-year-old near the intersection of Humin and Guilin roads in Minhang early Wednesday.

The suspect, who was on his way to meet friends on Jinglian Road Tuesday, got into an argument with Tang because he didn't have the money to pay the fare and couldn't contact his friends to help him out.
