Researchers at China Agricultural University have concluded that transgenic rice is just as safe and nutritious as non-transgenic rice, the Beijing Evening News reported.
Recently, 61 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering suggested that transgenic rice planting be approved for industrial farming. Currently, transgenic rice and corn are not authorized for such use in China, in accordance with the Seed Law.
Huang Kunlun, a professor at China Agricultural University, noted that safety assessments of transgenic products are essential before such products are approved for widespread commercial use.
