One person was killed and 51 injured when an empty train hit a stationary passenger train on the Qinghai-Tibet line in northwest China's Qinghai Province on Wednesday, Golmud City Government said Thursday.
As of 4 p.m., three of the injured were still in a serious condition and 22 had been discharged from hospital .
Around 8:10 p.m., the empty train, operated by Golmud East Railway Station, crashed into the passenger train 7581, with 439 passengers and 15 railway workers on board, just outside the station.
A total of 52 people -- 47 passengers and five workers -- were taken to hospital, said the Qinghai-Tibet Railway Company. A passenger who was trapped between two carriages of the passenger train died in hospital.
Rescue efforts at the scene ended early on Thursday.
An investigation is underway.
In a separate incident, the driver of a passenger train died and ten others were injured his train collided with a coal truck on Thursday in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province. The collision occurred at 2:25 a.m. in Jiamusi City when passenger train 4137 hit the truck at a level crossing, said local railway authorities.
