Medog is a small county in Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. Up to now, it's been one of China's last areas to be inaccessible by road. Now, with the opening of the Medog Highway, children in the county will have better access to the outside world .

When you walk into Medog primary school, you'll be surprised by the beautiful modern playground.

Students love this playground so much that during their free time, they pick up garbage left on the ground.

A modern dormitory and two school buildings have also been built for the students.

The school's old bungalows which were made out of stone and mud have now been replaced by new concrete buildings.

Teachers and students used to have to carry books and chalk weighing up to 1.5 ton to school by foot before the beginning the new semester.

But now modern teaching equipments will be easily transported to the school.

Now, Medog Highway is about to open to traffic. Internet and mail services are already in operation. Teachers and students at Medog school will no longer need to climb mountains and hills to get to school. The school is using the internet to give children better access to the outside world and improve their educational conditions.
