The move to protect animals has grown in popularity across China in recent years. Activists are seeking more legislation to protect animals in hopes of stamping out abuse.

A comprehensive animal welfare law has still yet to pass, with the Law on the Protection of Wild Animals being the only protection, prohibiting trafficking and abuse.

Despite the law, more and more cases of animal abuse are being exposed. Posts on social media have called for greater awareness for animal rights, such as this one that has asked car owners to be careful of cats that take shelter under their cars. And there are ongoing nationwide campaigns against eating and the trading shark fins and bear paws.
