Special government-built housing will be introduced to the public by the end of 2014 at the earliest, said a Beijing housing industry official named Chen Zhi, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.
People with a Beijing hukou (household registration) and no house, and people on waiting lists for affordable housing can apply for the apartments, but priority will be given to single men older than 25 who expect to get married soon.
Two-thirds of the apartments will be built between the fifth and sixth ring roads, with an average price of 22,000 yuan per square meter; the remainder, outside the Sixth Ring, will sell for 10,000 yuan per square meters. Most will be built near subway stations.
