Super typhoon Haiyan brings strong winds, rains to Guangxi
Typhoon Haiyan has continued to weaken after hitting south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Hainan province.
Weather authorities have lifted an alert that was in place since the typhoon moved into the country on Monday. Still, seven people have been killed, and over 2.3 million people are affected. As of early Monday evening, Haiyan had caused economic losses of close to 5 billion yuan or about 810 million US dollars in Hainan, affecting agricultural, fishing and forestry sectors.
Over 3,600 houses were destroyed, and about 120-thousand hectares of farmland damaged. In Guangxi, gales and rainstorms cut power supply to over 150-thousand households. Heavy rains are forecast for Guangxi and its neighbouring provinces.
