Prosecutors have handled 26 cases of illegal confinement triggered by pyramid selling, involving 133 suspects, in Shanghai's Pudong New Area so far this year, Wenhui Daily reported.
The suspects confiscated the victims' ID cards and mobile phones as soon as they arrived at a house where they were promised training and they were not allow to leave or communicate with the outside.
More than 120 of the suspects were themselves victims of the schemes and the majority of them were from rural areas and under the age of 30.
