Chinese leaders on Monday urged implementation of a recent decision on major reform for years to come.
The decision on "major issues concerning comprehensively deepening reforms" approved by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on Nov. 12 will have a far-reaching influence on economic and social development as well as improving people's living standards, said Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
Yu called on all members to provide opinions and suggestions to carry out the reform while presiding over a meeting held in Beijing by the Standing Committee of the 12th National Committee of the CPPCC.
Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, urged efforts to grasp the essence of the decision while delivering a report at the meeting.
The general objective of reform is to improve and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics and modernize the governing system and its capabilities, Liu stressed.
Economic reform is key to other reforms, Liu said, adding that to deepen the economic reform, the market should play a decisive role in allocating resources.
Reform should focus on fairness and justice and enhancing the people's well-being, in order to bring development to the public in an equal way, he said.
Liu also noted that the Party must give full play to its core role of commanding the whole situation, coordinating all quarters, and improving leadership and governance to ensure success.
