Shanghai has opened more than 2,700 public restrooms, local media reported Tuesday on the first World Toilet Day.
Residents can search for nearby public restrooms with a mobile phone application developed by the city's sanitation bureau.
The local government had made all of the city's restrooms free to the public by 2010.
