Two days after the explosion in Qingdao, the oil spill in Jiaozhou Bay is worse than previously reported. The city's Maritime Safety Administration says the oil spill has spread across an area of 10,000 square meters in the Jiaozhou Bay and remains difficult to clean up.
Maritime authorities say they were only notified hours after the oil pipeline explosion and missed the best opportunity to contain the pollution.
No information about the extent of damage to the local ecology and fishing industry is available at this point.
