Construction is nearing completion on a stone bridge near Qianmen Dajie, which is modeled after an ancient bridge used by Chinese emperors, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.
The ancient bridge is part of the route that emperors would traverse to arrive at the Temple of Heaven to conduct sacrificial activities, but it was removed in 1934 to facilitate a street-widening construction project. The new bridge, whose construction plan was approved in 2012, will reconstruct the historical appearance of the site, with delicate embossing and calligraphy by various emperors carved on the bridge.
