Multiple commercial airlines have decided to report their flight plans to Chinese authorities when flying through the zone.
Three major US commercial carriers, including United, American and Delta airlines are now following Washington's advice and informing Beijing of their flight plans. However, US military aircraft aren't following the same protocol.
Several other commercial airliners in the Asia-Pacific region, including Singapore Airlines, Australia's Qantas Airways, South Korea's Korean Airlines and Hong Kong based carrier Cathay Pacific have said they will notify Chinese authorities before flying through the zone.
Japan has meanwhile instructed its carriers to disregard China's ADIZ rules, unless their final destination is China.
