China's top political advisors discussed deepening reform in science and technology and enhancing original innovation abilities at a meeting on Thursday.
Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body, attended the meeting held in Beijing.
Political advisors put forward proposals on the management of investment for scientific and technological development, the distribution of resources in the field, building an environment for promoting innovation, the transformation of scientific achievement as well as the cultivation of talent.
They called for the "decisive role" of the market in distributing resources in the scientific and technological field, increasing the percentage of investment for basic research and providing favorable policies and environment for innovation.
They also suggested launching a project to narrow the gap in talent and knowledge between the developed east and the underdeveloped western regions of China.
The meeting is held once every two weeks, with political advisors discussing major issues related to China's development.
